You ARE ready. My new Wakeup Call

As 2014 is quickly coming to a close, I’m thinking about how strong I want to finish. I don’t like leaving chapters open when I really do have the opportunity to close them and start on a new goal. 2015 is dedicated to remembering who I am. 2015 is dedicated to the athlete, the fighter, the one that won’t quit when everyone is pulling you in different directions. It’s dedicated to important appointments, and dates, ones that I will stop breaking and standing up for things that do not push me closer to my dreams, leaving my sneakers sad by the door, waiting to hit the pavement or cycle another revolution on my lonely bike. 2015 is not about how dark it is. It’s not about how tired you are. How sore you are. How much you want to skip your workout because your current state of mind says that can’t. It’s about how much you CAN. It’s about how much you will love yourself for that extra 20 minutes of yoga in the morning, that 6 mile long run you’ve been putting of. The 10 mile long run you forgot you could do. It’s about digging deeper, finding your WHY, your reason to drive forward and bring light to those dark spaces in time. I’m planning NOW for later, it’s never too late to start.

2015 is dedicated to the athlete, to finding my max. Because I miss it. I miss the feeling of pushing myself further and accomplishing the unthinkable. January is usually the month that I spend wiping my sorry butt off the floor because I’m ‘too cold’ to run outside, or ‘too tired’ so I end up having no plan, no motivation, and no results. Well this is the last January I sit on my couch making excuses. I know how to honor my body, give it the fuel it needs, the water it needs, and the rest that it needs. But will I do it? This is it, this is the time, I’m going to get those 8 hours of sleep, and my body is going to LOVE me for it. I’m going to get up with enough time to push myself past that snooze button, onto the floor and someone is going to say ‘OH crap, she’s up’. I’m going to teach others to love their minds and bodies, and sweat and dance while doing it! I couldn’t be more excited to finish this year!

Here’s my new wakeup call. I’m going out with a bang 2014 so look OUT 2015, you won’t know what hit you.

I’m ready. You ARE ready.

My PiYo experience

I have taken live PiYO classes, and done pilates and yoga for the past 10 years. Nothing compares. While I have experienced the live workout in a class setting,  the PiYo Workout DVDs are similar and include many of the signature moves.

PiYo has actually been gyms across the Unites States and Canada for years, and now I’m so excited that it will be on DVDs now too for the non-gym goers like me!

That’s why I have been sharing my experience with PiYo so much. Order the Deluxe or the Order the Challenge Pack. If you are more advanced, I highly recommend the slides-the full body strength workouts are simply amazing!

Sacrifice yourself for others

20131014-211340.jpg

Sometimes you need to think and look real hard at yourself and remember that you’re going through a difficult time for a reason. Our sacrifices are for the work of something greater. For me it’s God’s legacy. For you it may be a family member, a pet, or a dream. Who holds your dreams and desires? Remember that it is good to put yourself second sometimes, because the hard work you do now, will bring great joy and gifts later. I forget that despite how busy this season of my life may be, others are taking notes from me and getting healthier in their lives. This is probably the best part of my day-it makes me super happy! Knowing that I can still motivate you to work hard even though I can’t be right there! I hope you will push through your tough week at work, your difficult semester at school, and know that your hard work is inspiring others out there to be better and bolder each day! Happy Monday 🙂

Why I Run.

Why I Run

There are many things in life I never thought would become habits for me. Things that didn’t seem appealing, worth a try, or  carry so many benefits with them. Did you ever think that by doing something for yourself, you would actually be helping others too? As skeptical as I am to experiment in the kitchen, I have learned that it brings more joy to those around me when due effort is put forward. And yes, being selfish is one of the healthiest thngs you can do for yourself and those around you. It will make you happier, less anxious, less grumpy, and in reaction-you will be making your community more attracted to you! A happy mom, makes a happy family 😉 A happy individual makes a happy workplace, and so-on…just set one foot foward.

Thus goes with running. It is something that always seemed like a chore to me. Or some unnatainable sport that I was not ‘born’ to do. I always thought because I grew up playing softball, that my body would never be able to carry me more than 30 yards at a time. That it was unbelievably hard-and it is..but just put so much pressure on each run and running as a whole. Oh, how my dreams and goals have changed.

It has taken years of experimenting (and practicing, aka running!) to find why running makes me so happy. It is simple, yet creates a ‘no brainer’ reason of why you should do the things that make you the happiest, every day if you can.

Running is the only time I can be alone, without phone calls or emails, meetings, projects, people, parents, whatever it is that keeps me busy all week….running is MY time. No one can tell me where to take my run, how fast to take it, what to think about, or what time to go out on my care-free, wind-in-my-hair, adventures. If I want to get up at 5:30, before the world is light to be with myself and God if I choose, I do it. Forget about the beautiful places my runs take me to, the quiet time is reason enough. So after learning all this, races don’t interest me nearly as much anymore (save for triathlons) running groups aren’t my thing, and I still do appreciate a great running partner to share in the sacredness of running. But my favorite runs are solo. And that works for me. What works for you?

Daily 100 Challenge!

1017219_10200401046332098_1105215598_n

Alright guys, who’s ready for 30 days of motivation, accountability, and fun?! For those of you joining me, here’s how it works:

You will spend 30 days working towards each of the daily 100 parts at your own pace! If you want to try any of these things on your own for the first time, add to you routine, or maintain a regimen while you’re on the go, this is the challenge for you! Record your daily totals in a journal or on your phone, and keep track of them from day 1-30. Take photos of yourself on day one and on day 30!
By day 30, I guarantee you will see HUGE changes!

1. If you already have cardio planned in your day-your mile counts into the equation,
– Walk a mile, or Run a mile, (If you have injuries, please consult your doctor to make sure the bike or elliptical is a safe alternative)
2. Pilates 100
3. 100 second plank-work up to this!
4. 100 pushups-spread them out in sets throughout the day, you can do these on your knees or on your hands and feet-
(ADD VARIETY, mix it up with tricep pushups too! You will also work up to these. When you start getting stronger you will be able to do all of your sets in one or two workouts.
